Job Description

At BD, possibility isn’t an idea. It’s what we do. We are the Makers of Possible.

We’re looking for a Service Engineer to join our technical service team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, based in our Macquarie Park workshop. This role is perfect for an early‑career Electrical Engineer or Biomedical Engineer (with strong electrical skills) who wants to build expertise in medical devices, electro‑medical servicing and precision testing - all while contributing to equipment that directly supports patient care.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll work with highly specialised devices, perform repairs and upgrades, and ensure our customers’ equipment is safe, compliant and performing at its best.

Your Day-to-Day

As a Service Engineer, you’ll work on a variety of equipment in our onsite workshop and occasionally support customers onsite when required.

Your day will include:

  • Performing software upgrades, hardware replacements and equipment remediation
  • Conducting depot repairs, preventative maintenance, performance verification and electrical safety testing
  • Servicing customer instruments in the workshop, with occasional onsite work
  • Maintaining meticulous documentation for all repairs, upgrades, calibrations and testing
  • Participating in technical training (locally and internationally where required)
  • Staying current with Australian Standards related to electro‑medical equipment
  • Working closely with the service team to prioritise repairs and maintain high turnaround times
  • Maintaining strong control of parts usage and service stocks
  • Communicating with internal stakeholders such as Service Managers and Technical Specialists to support service quality

This role will give you exposure to regulated medical technology, quality systems and highly specialised equipment - ideal for engineers wanting to grow their technical capability.

About You

You’re hands‑on, technically curious and enjoy solving problems. You’re early in your engineering career and ready to develop deep experience in medical device service and compliance.

You’ll bring:

  • Qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (Cert, Diploma or Degree)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, electro‑mechanical and software components
  • Understanding of computers, operating systems and assigned software
  • Ability to work accurately with detailed technical processes and documentation
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
  • High attention to detail, organisation and task prioritisation
  • Flexibility, adaptability and willingness to learn
  • Experience with medical device repairs is beneficial but not essential - full training provided
  • Experience with Salesforce or ServiceMax is an advantage
