About us
BD has a long-established presence in Ireland, marked by continuous innovation. Since 1964, BD has employed thousands of people and produced billions of medical devices, particularly syringes and other critical healthcare products.
The company’s footprint expanded in 2016 with the acquisition of GenCell Biosystems Ltd. in Limerick, which established BD’s R&D Centre of Excellence in Ireland and strengthened its capabilities in life science instrumentation and advanced diagnostics.
Following the Bard acquisition in 2017, BD added new product areas and technologies to its Irish operations, creating additional opportunities for growth and placing Enniscorthy firmly on the map as a key site for future development and talent expansion.
Today, BD operates sites located in Wexford, Dublin and Limerick employing highly skilled associates across engineering, operations, quality, and various support functions.
As a global organization, we regularly support associates relocating between BD locations. We understand that moving—whether alone or with family—can be challenging, and our goal is to make the experience as smooth and stress free as possible.

Limerick
As one of BD’s four Enterprise R&D hubs supporting multiple business units, RCI (Research Centre Ireland) represents a major milestone in bringing us together as one BD. Here, we integrate hardware, software, and technology services to support global operations in a consistent, collaborative way. Dublin South Blackrock
Our Dublin South office was originally based in Dún Laoghaire until 2022, when the Diabetes Care business unit spun off, the Blackrock office was established. Located in South Dublin, the Blackrock site is now home to our Pharmaceutical Systems R&D team in Ireland, along with colleagues in key business support functions including Sales, Marketing, and Commercial. The site also supports teams and individuals in global roles across HR, Facilities, IT, EHS, and Finance.
Blackrock is a culturally diverse and inclusive workplace, with circa 80 associates representing nine nationalities. We actively celebrate this diversity through initiatives led by our Associate Resource Group (ARG), including cultural lunches where colleagues can share food, traditions, and personal stories. In 2025, the Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) was also launched at the site. Together, these communities help foster an environment where everyone is encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work—so we can succeed as one team.
Enniscorthy
Since acquiring our Enniscorthy business—formerly Clearstream—BD has significantly expanded the site’s capabilities. Today, Enniscorthy is a hub for the design, development and manufacture of innovative minimally invasive medical devices across peripheral arterial disease and surgical procedures. With a broad and evolving product portfolio, it’s a dynamic and exciting place to build your career.
Founded in 1996 and acquired by BD in 2017, the site has grown into a team of more than 400 associates. Building on a strong legacy in angioplasty devices for peripheral and coronary artery disease, our in‑house R&D capability has enabled us to diversify and accelerate innovation. We continue to deliver first‑to‑market solutions, including thin‑walled introducer sheaths, surgical alternative access technologies and plant‑based fabrics designed for rapid blood absorption.
Innovation here goes beyond products. Our teams are advancing new benchtop test methods and preclinical protocols that strengthen product design and support better patient outcomes. This creates real opportunities to make a global impact—both on site and through close collaboration with colleagues and partners around the world.
Just as importantly, Enniscorthy offers a culture where people can thrive. Our Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) help shape an inclusive, connected environment and drive meaningful initiatives across the site. We actively engage with local schools to encourage STEM pathways at third level, and our events and wellness communities create regular opportunities to connect—through individual, group and family activities throughout the year.
We’re also proud of the difference we make locally. Through associate‑led fundraising, we support a nominated charity of the year and have contributed significantly to causes across County Wexford over recent years.
Sustainability is another area of strong momentum. Over the past several years, the site has taken practical steps to reduce energy use and carbon impact—including reductions in electricity load and fuel oil consumption, delivering a meaningful annual reduction in CO₂e. We remain aligned to BD’s longer‑term sustainability ambition, including the goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2040.

Early Careers
At BD Ireland, we’re passionate about nurturing early talent. Our goal is to create inclusive, sustained pathways into STEM careers by combining financial support, mentorship, immersive experiences, and direct engagement with educators.
Through our work placements and coop programmes, students gain real world experience, develop technical and professional skills, and receive meaningful mentorship that supports their transition into graduate roles. We also invest significantly in STEM outreach, partnering with Junior Achievement Ireland, DEIS afterschool clubs, and TeenTurns to provide immersive learning opportunities, including two week placements for female students. Each year, we financially support students through the BD Scholarships and Bursaries Programme and inspire innovation through our flagship BD STEM Stars competition, where secondary school students identify healthcare challenges and pitch creative solutions to BD experts, with winners receiving mentorship and financial support to advance their ideas.
These initiatives reflect our culture and our commitment to advancing the world of health™. By working closely with our community, we’re not only supporting education but helping build a strong, diverse pipeline of future STEM professional.
