Job Description

Position Summary

The BD Excellence Director META will lead the adoption and implementation of the BD Excellence vision and strategic plan within META. This role supports structured growth and innovation across multiple business and functional areas.

This role is a key partner in our journey to BD Excellence and acts as a reference and advisor to the META Leadership Team. It supports the leadership team in leading the Continuous Improvement process, focusing on visual management, problem solving, and kaizen. The role also helps deploy strategic plans by ensuring alignment through cascading important metrics from top to bottom and bottom to top.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic and transformational leader with strong commercial experience and expertise in business operations, process optimization, and organizational change, and highly capable of getting results in a matrix organization.

Key Responsibilities

BD Excellence Strategy Development and Deployment:

  • Own the development and coordination of the BD Excellence vision and strategy in META to foster focused growth and innovation across various business and functional domains. Concentrate mainly on implementing the BD Excellence commercial tools and processes that enhance exceptional sales efficiency.

  • Support the leadership team in deploying strategic plans, ensuring alignment through cascading Key Performance Indicators top-down and bottom-up.

  • Support the President META and META Leadership Team in driving key initiatives through BD Excellence, including revenue growth, Gross Profit Improvement and Operational Profit.

  • Develop and facilitate continuous improvement (Kaizen) events to achieve and sustain improvement results.

  • Partner with the global BD Excellence Central Leadership Team to facilitate best-practice sharing, driving efficiency and impact in the strong execution of BD Excellence tools and processes.

Leading Change through BD Excellence initiatives:

  • Drive BD Excellence programs and initiatives to achieve long-term continuous improvement objectives through top-down alignments and cross BU / Function resources.

  • Challenge existing paradigms, encourage and promote internal and external standard process; Drive collaboration within Business Units and Functions to accept new insights and achieve sustainable business improvements.

  • Lead digitalization and innovation efforts at organization level to improve the business and operation excellence and customer experience.

Cultivate BD Excellence culture and Capability Development:

  • Develop and grow capability through cross-Business Units/Functions teams to establish the fundamentals of excellence from all aspects, e.g. business development, customer service, channel manager and commercial operation.

  • Be an authority (can instruct and implement) in the BD Excellence fundamentals of Visual Management (VM)/ Daily Management (DM), Problem Solving Process (PSP), Kaizen and Funnel Management. 

  • Drive culture of continuous improvement by encouraging associates to identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements. Develop an environment where associates feel valued and empowered to give feedback and make change.

  • Use methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen to structure these efforts.

Education

University bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or a related field is required.

MBA or equivalent business experience preferred.

Experiences

  • Relevant career with a progression in Sales and Marketing Leadership roles.

  • Consistent Commercial Experience with a proven track record of driving processes to achieve results, ideally with experience as a sales rep, sales leader, and in commercial operations.

  • Preferably expertise in the medical devices, clinical diagnostics and capital equipment markets. 

  • Sophisticated knowledge of Process and Lean techniques in a commercial setting.

  • Significant career experience in an organization where a business system is part of the culture and the core tools of visual management, problem solving, kaizen are embedded in all aspects of the business.

  • Solid experience working with lean and six sigma business systems is preferred. Certified practitioner in lean tools is highly desirable.

  • Excellent facilitation & communication skills both in person and virtually. 

  • Change champion. Ability to drive culture and change. BD Excellence is new to BD and [Region] and this individual will need to drive the change management journey

  • Ability to lead teams and inspire change in a matrix organization, experienced working in managing large-scale projects and leading cross-functional teams. In a multi-site and multi-cultural environment is preferred.

  • Entrepreneurial attitude. Individual who can drive progress with limited oversight.

  • Committed individual who is highly proactive at solving problems and obtaining results.

Knowledge and Skills

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong understanding of the META Region’s regulations, market and business environment and BD’s commercial and operational excellence principles, frameworks and methodologies.

  • View the business from a high-level perspective while adapting to fast-changing environments, demonstrating flexible planning and follow-through skills. Ensure the focus of resources and time on priorities.

In addition, this person should also possess:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills, able to build a coalition of support from partners and optimally motivate change in matrix environment.

  • Ability to translate strategic direction into execution – action orientation and work towards results coupled with a true “hands on” attitude 

  • Systems thinking approach for effective problem solving required.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, c.50-70%.

For most roles, we require a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week to maintain our culture of excellence and ensure smooth operations, while also recognizing the importance of flexibility and work-life balance. Remote or field-based positions will have different workplace arrangements which will be indicated in the job posting.
