Job Description
The Sr. Director, Org Capability & Engagement is an enterprise-level leader responsible for building and sustaining BD's organizational effectiveness — the conditions, capabilities, and structures that enable talent to perform, grow, and deliver strategy at scale. Where other talent functions focus on the individual, this role focuses on the organization: enterprise workforce planning, managerial effectiveness, the listening system and engagement strategy (inclusive of ARGs), and systemic organizational capability interventions, managed with the same rigor BD applies to individual talent development.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as BD's enterprise authority on organizational capability — define what the organization must be capable of, identify gaps, and design targeted interventions through the Systematic Org Capability (SOC) framework, aligned to strategic and business planning cycles.
- Lead and govern enterprise strategic workforce planning — model talent supply and demand across critical roles, identify structural gaps, and partner with Talent and Finance on multi-year plans that keep organizational capacity aligned to strategic ambition.
- Act as a thought partner to senior HR, BU, Regional, and Functional leaders — translate insights into prioritized actions, pressure-test progress, address barriers, and sustain accountability for business-critical outcomes.
- Own BD's managerial effectiveness strategy end-to-end: define enterprise standards for people leaders, build the enabling infrastructure, and measure manager effectiveness across the enterprise as a core organizational health indicator.
- Partner with BD University on training delivery to close capability gaps affecting engagement, performance, and retention — closing the loop between diagnosis and delivery.
- Shape the enterprise listening system and engagement strategy, inclusive of ARGs — shifting from annual survey cycles to continuous pulse listening that drives measurable business outcomes and a positive associate experience.
- Advise senior leaders on emerging engagement themes, associate sentiment, culture risks, and organizational effectiveness opportunities that may impact retention, performance, and transformation
- Conduct regular organizational capability reviews with HRBPs and business leaders — identifying collective performance patterns, skill gaps, and structural barriers that cannot be resolved at the individual level.
- Own the Leadership Future Fit metric — define future-ready leadership capability for New BD, establish the baseline, and track progress as a forward-looking organizational indicator.
- Integrate organizational capability planning into BD's strategic planning cycle, ensuring workforce, capability, and organizational design decisions are made in advance of business need.
- Design and oversee organizational effectiveness initiatives spanning functions and segments — restructuring support, change readiness assessments, and post-transformation integration reviews.
- Lead enterprise talent and engagement initiatives identified by the CEO and/or CPO.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of organizational interventions by linking activity to measurable behavior change and business outcomes; establish baselines and communicate ROI, bringing frank, data-driven perspectives on organizational health to senior leaders.
- Lead and develop a team of organizational effectiveness specialists; manage external research and benchmarking partnerships to keep BD's practices evidence-based and competitive.
Education, Qualifications, and Experience
Education
- Bachelor's required; advanced degree in Organizational Development, I-O Psychology, or MBA preferred
Experience
- Experience with enterprise-scale organizational transformation
- Capability and organizational design · Strategic workforce planning
- Organizational diagnostics translated into action
- Credibility and influence with senior leaders, internal and external
- Change management · People analytics · Listening system design and ownership
- Preferred: management consulting background (strategy or organization/people practice) and/or senior HR leadership roles in large, complex organizations
- The successful candidate will be an engaging, strategic, and highly intelligent leader with strong corporate savvy, exceptional executive presence, and a proven ability to influence senior leaders, navigate organizational complexity, and drive enterprise-wide outcomes through partnership and influence.
