Job Description

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) to all Germany manufacturing facilities.  Provide EHS support to regional field organisations.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory, corporate and ISO management system requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in EHS performance, culture, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with site leadership to integrate EHS into business processes and decision-making.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities and external stakeholders.

Duties / Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures in line with legal and corporate requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with German occupational safety, environmental protection, fire safety, and waste management regulations.
  • Act as appointed Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit, Fire Protection Officer, and Waste Manager (as required).
  • Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, and implementation of appropriate control measures.
  • Support the development of safety analyses, operating procedures, and risk evaluations.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture including incident and near-miss reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Deliver EHS training programs and build capability across employees, supervisors, and leadership.
  • Manage and continuously improve environmental and safety management systems (e.g. ISO14001, ISO45001).
  • Ensure compliant waste management processes including storage, handling, and disposal.
  • Prepare and report EHS KPIs locally and within the regional/global matrix organisation.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits and support external inspections and regulatory audits.
  • Collaborate with works councils, occupational health providers, regulatory authorities, and professional associations.
  • Work closely with safety representatives, first aiders, fire wardens, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain emergency preparedness and business continuity measures.
  • Provide expert guidance to leadership on EHS risks, compliance obligations, and improvement opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external agencies.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, environmental science, occupational safety, or related discipline.
  • Certified Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (ASiG).
  • Several years of experience in EHS within a manufacturing or operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of German EHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing EHS management systems.

Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO45001 management systems.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and influencing skills in a matrix organisation.
  • Ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and SAP or similar systems.
  • Structured, independent working style with high level of accountability.
  • Fluent German and English language skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage, motivate, and influence at all levels.

Our pay is based on the role and the necessary skills and education to perform it successfully. The salary or hourly rate offered is determined by the role's specific requirements, including any applicable step rate pay system at the work location. Salary or hourly pay ranges are influenced by labor laws and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requirements applicable to the work location which may also affect the workplace arrangement of the role.
